i decided to reread this trilogy for the millionth time, after remembering how good it was. because it really is fantastic.

this is maybe my favorite series ever (that includes you, harry potter)
something about it is so wonderful
the first time I finished the series I was practically in tears and then almost immediately reread the whole thing
if anyone has not read his dark materials, DO SO.

I agree with the above, except I think that the weird theological arguments are part of the appeal. His Dark Materials is profound as fuck. It’s basically what Harry Potter would be like if it addressed religion and philosophy. It’s a sophisticated anti-Narnia, and I like how it’s courageous enough to not hide its underlying philosophical viewpoint under a layer of allegory.
